Original Official Souvenir. Antique book representing the 31 National Encampment GAR (Grand Army of the Republic). This was given out "Compliments of Marine Bank of Buffalo. August 23 - 28, 1897. It is shaped like a buffalo head. The heavy paper front cover is missing. A water stain on the upper left corner. "Buffalo Greets the Grand Army of the Republic. For the heroes who aided in preserving the nation, Buffalo opens home and heart. The surviving veterans of the Union Army, gathered from every part of the greater Union, under the flag as of old save that more stars bespangle the blue of its field, are mustered here, a gladly received army of occupation." The book lists all the GAR officers and associated groups along with their photos. Many pictures of Buffalo and articles about all the organizations associated with the GAR and its mission. Articles of Buffalo's role in the Civil War and its future after the War. Great source of Buffalo and Erie County history.
