Two vintage heavy porcelain Japanese figures. Moriage with gold paint accents. The man is 7" tall, and the woman is 6 1/2" tall. No maker marks. Some minor paint wear. Very nice.
"This is one of the oldest legends of Japan and was played in a Noh play. The man’s name is Jo, and his wife is Uba, and as a couple, they are called Jotomba. They symbolize long life and happiness, with Jo raking in the good and Uba sweeping out the bad. This pair is quite beloved in Japan and often given as wedding gifts, celebrations and new year."...Kutani Ceramic.
