It began distilling sake in 1659 and has remained one of the oldest sake producers in Japan. It only produces dry sake. The name is significant in Japanese history. Kiku means Chrysanthemum, the flower symbol of the Japanese emperor. The name Masamune is a reference to the legendary Japanese swordsmith.
